Wedge Wire

General

Wedge wire is a welded steel structure, mainly used for filtration, separation and retention media.

It consists of surface profiles, usually V-shaped, that are resistance welded onto support profiles. The distance between the surface profiles is controlled very accurately, as it forms the slot through which the filtrate flows.

In case of V-shaped surface profiles conical slots are created (as shown on figure).

Filtrations Direction

The direction of the flow is determined by the position of the surface profiles in relation to the support profiles. Wedge wire screens are either flow-out-to-in (FOTI) or flow-in-to-out (FITO)

Advantages

Wedge wire has the following advantages:

  • Non-clogging: the continuous slot formed by the V-shaped surface wires ensures a two-point contact between the particles and the slot, which minimizes clogging.
  • High-precision slot sizes: precise slot sizes are available to meet customer´s requirements.
  • Surface filtration: the V-shaped surface wires allow easy cleaning by mechanical scraping or back flushing.
  • Low pressure-drop
  • Strong construction: for most applications, the wedge wire screen is self-supporting, because of the welding at each intersection.
Trislot® Advantages
The proprietary Trislot production technology offers value added wedge wire products to our customers with significant advantages.
The unsurpassed flatness of Trislot screen surfaces and roundness of Trislot slot tubes and baskets are the key to optimal performance and extended lifetime of your wedge wire filter elements. The flexibility in design and production techniques enable us to produce a state-of-the-art product covering your specific needs.
Trislot filter elements are resistant to extreme pressure and temperature variances as well as corrosion due to their inherent high mechanical stability, and the variety of stainless steel and exotic alloys that can be applied in the production of a tailor-made filtration product. They are an excellent alternative to the traditional perforated plate and woven wire filter products.

Product Forms

Wedge wire screens are available in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. From two basic forms, slot tubes and flat screens, almost all shapes and sizes can be developed to fit customers´ requirements. Some of our most popular product forms are given below.

Slot Tubes

The support profiles are rods in the axial direction of the tube. The surface profiles are spirally wound around the support profiles.

Flat Welded Screens

The surface profiles are welded at 90° angles onto support rods.

Flat Screens

These are simular to "Welded flat screens", but they are manufactured by opening and flattening slot tubes.

Support Tubes

The construction is similar to that of slot tubes, but in this case the tube is used as carrier for another filter media. Support elements are mainly made with round wires.

Cylinders & Conical Baskets

The surface profiles are rods in the axial direction of the cylinder and the support profiles are rings.

Continuous Cylinders

The surface profiles are rods in the axial direction of the tube. The support profile is spirally wound around the surface profiles.
