Reactor internals for refining / petrochemical processing

Catalytic reforming, hydro desulphurization, ammonia conversion, NOx removal, styrene dehydrogenation, solvent recovery and isomerization are typical processes using wedge wire screens.
Basically two type of reactors can be considered:

Radial flow reactor

Center pipe and scallops

Center pipe/outer screen

The radial flow reactor can again be divided into 2 types:

  • execution with center pipe and scallops
  • execution with center pipe and outer screen

For both reactors the efficiency of the process depends on the screen internals. Trislot® wedge wire internals offer exceptional strength and resistance to collapse, breaking and buckling. The combination of high open area and non-clogging of the slots provides high volume flow and efficient media retention. Thanks to the vertical slots in the center pipe and the outer screen/scallops and the smooth surface, the catalyst beads can move up and down without being abraded or broken by the screens.

Down flow reactor

Down flow reactor

A down flow or up flow reactor uses flat screen to retain the treatment media or catalyst in its position and to foresee a collection place for the flow. Other internals used in this type of reactor are:

  • inlet distributor
  • scale trap baskets
  • top bed filter
  • catalyst support grids
  • bottom baskets

The efficiency of the process depends on the screen internals. Trislot® wedge wire internals offer exceptional strength and resistance to collapse, breaking and buckling. The combination of high open area and non-clogging of the slots provides high volume flow and efficient media retention. Many different alloys are available, even for demanding applications.
